United 163 all out (39.3 overs) beat Lankians 130 all out (33.4 overs) by 33
runs
New promoted Friends United begin their season with bang as they
defeated one of the strongest team in Division 2. Lankians were relegated
from Division 1 last year but year before they had won their first 10 games to
achieve promotion.
Friends United captain Piyush Vanraj loss the toss as Lankians
decided to field first. New opening paid of Ramesh Magan and Nirmal Ramgi
begin well as they scored 20 runs in first 2 overs but in 4th over
Nirmal stayed far too back in his crease as umpire gave him LBW. New
played Dilesh Narotam play one superb straight shot for 6 before he was given
out caught behind without ball touching his bat. One more wicket followed
before a superb 60 runs partnership between Ramesh and Jigar Vassantlal took
the score to 103/3 in 29 overs. Ramesh scored a patient 50 before both
Jigar and Ramesh lost their wickets, but some late order hitting from new
player Imran Mohammed (17 of 7 balls) and Dinesh Carsane (11 of 7) took the
score to 163 all out.
In reply Friends United pace battery bowled superbly and didn’t
gave any freebies as pressure started mounting up on Lankians
batsman. Nikhil Mulgi removed their opener in his second over and
from other end new player Nilesh Lacmane removed their other batsman.
Then Imran Mohammed and Ramesh Magan from both end took charge as they both
claimed 3 wicket a piece to leave Lankians 75/8 but some relaxed fielding and
sloppy bowling meant Lankians only needed further 30 runs in 7 overs but a
superb catch by Imran at short midwicket ended their innings as Friends United
registered their first win in Division 2.
