Match report Friends United CC vs Shivam CC – Middlesex Premier Cricket League – Division 3 at North Acton Playing Fields on 30th June 2013

A super 80 runs partnership between inform stars Jalpesh Vijay and Ramesh Magan and all round performance by Ramesh were the cornerstone of a brilliant win for Friends United.

On a hot and sunny day Friends United skipper Yogesh Nagpal won the toss and decided to have bat first. Opening pair of Piyush Vanraj and Nirmal Ramgi started the match cautiously for first 2 overs but then Piyush started to play some excellent shots and along with good running between the wickets took the score to 33 in 6 overs. But in 7th over Piyush tried to take 1 run too many as he was run out by a super throw from Shivam’s fielder. Ramesh Magan came to the crease and along with Nirmal they kept the score board ticking but then Nirmal was hit on the shoulder by a throw from midwicket as he tried to take a run. He was retired hurt which brought on Jalpesh Vijay on to the crease. Jalpesh and Ramesh soon accelerated and scored more than 6 runs per over. Soon Jalpesh reached his second successive 50 in only 41 balls, he hit two massive sixes. At drinks break score was 133/1 after 20 overs and Friends United were set to score more than 250 but after break Jalpesh lost his wicket to an excellent ball by Dilesh Narotam and in the next over Ramesh lost his wicket for 41 runs. Shivam applied some good pressure than on to take another 2 quick wickets. But some excellent hits by Nikhil Mulgi and sensible batting by Vivek Rameshchandra meant they were managed to scored 210/9 in 40 overs.

In reply Shivam inning got off to a bad start as Dinesh Carsane balled superb first over as he took wicket of Jaspal. Then on Shivam struggled for runs and then first change Ramesh Magan balled superb spell to take 4/16 in 8 overs with 3 maidens to reduce Shivam to 66/8 but some late hitting by Dharmendra Vaja and Kalapi Magan meant they managed to cross 100 and get an extra point to stay on top in Division 3 table. Vivek Rameshchandra took 2 wickets in 2 overs to finish things off as Shivam were bowled out for 102 in 30 overs. Friends United won by 109 runs and are 2 points off the lead in Division 3.
