Friends United Cricket Club Lost by 22 runs

Match report Friends United CC came into this game and wanted to win to keep their excellent run in 2010 season of loosing just one 40 overs game but old habbit of giving away too many extras cost them the game and even excellent effort from Man of The Match Nikhil Mulgi wasn’t enough.

They started the match without a regular wicket keeper and have to use Cej Ramniclal as makeshift keeper. Friends United CC lost the toss and Ruislip Orientals decided to bat first on tricky looking pitch. Nikhil started with real pace and venom in his bowling and giving away nothing at all in initial overs. On the other hand our other opening bowler Kiran had an off day as nothing he tried came out right and gave few extras in his first 3 overs. But on the other side Nikhil was in his groove and he took out 2 batsman with real pace.

Captain Yogesh then brought on Vivek Rameschandra from other end he started bowling excellent line and length and opportunity presented straight away in slip and was grabbed by Piyush. And then another stunning catch for the team, caught by Ashish Dhangi with one handed running effort. In between Ruislip’s batsman Hardik has started playing some shots, specially on leg side to take score to 87/5 at halfway stage (20 overs).

After the break sun came out and pitch became easy to play on and Hardik in partnership with Amar started to take the game away from Friends United as they played some lovely shots and also some loose bowling from Friends United. At 33 overs mark score was 195/5 with a 100 run partnership between Amar and Hardik with both scoring excellent 50s.

Then in 34 over, bowled by Yogesh changed the whole inning with 3 wickets failing in that over, first with excellent glove work by Cej of Friends United and then 2 excellent wickets by Yogesh to stem the run flow including wicket of dangerous batsman Vimal. Ruislip were bowled out for 210 in 35.4 overs.

In reply Friends United got their innings going with a good start between opening pair of Yogesh and Piyush. Things were looking up when Yogesh fell to offside bowl try to clear the fielders. In came Cej and together with Piyush tried to develop the partnership and they guided the score to 52 when Piyush fell to an excellent catch by Naresh. Cej hit some excellent shots when he fell to superb catch by Hardik. Rajiv fell soon after and things were not looking good for Friends United but Nikhil first with help of Kiran and then Vivek R tried to chase down the score.

Nikhil scored an excellent 50 and falling in last over of the innings. At the end extra runs of 48 (given in wide and leg byes) cost us the game and we lost only 2nd match of 40 overs in 2010. It was and excellent game and thank you Ruislip for providing us with a good match. Well played everyone in Friends United.
